Finally - - - What every fossil hunter waits to see - - -
TRILOBITES! This site was particularly good for the abundant molted "lace
collar" of the delicate trilobite, Cryptolithus.
There were also a number of whole Flexicalymene
granulosa found.
Since the Kope formations are loaded with shale, numerous
examples of the Flexicalymene's burrows were found (below). These
are called Rhusophycus.
Also, many fragments of the giant trilobite, Isotelus,
were found. The picture below shoes what remains of the tail section, or
pygidium.
The picture below shows some Isotelus trilobite fragments next
to a nicely preserved fragment of a Nautiloid Cephalopod.
