Dry Dredgers Field Trip
February 27, 2010
Behringer-Crawford Museum

The Dry Dredgers had a brutal February of repeated snows, which temporarily occluded all fossils from their avid collectors. It was time to step away from all that frustration and get together for a field trip to a museum. Our field trip chair had a brilliant idea. There is a museum in our area (Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky) that few of us have visited. The Behringer-Crawford Museum in Devou Park, just across the river in Covington Kentucky, overlooking the Cincinnati Skyline.

The Behringer-Crawford Museum focuses on Northern Kentucky, which is classically part of the Greater Cincinnati area and includes it's airport (CVG which stands for Covington KY),

But not only does Northern Kentucky have the best places to look for late Ordovician fossils, it has a unique history and natural history. For anyone who has lived in Northern Kentucky the museum is a must-see. It's a trip back to a fond past.

For those visiting the Cincinnati area, the Behringer-Crawford Museum needs to be on the itinerary. It represents the Kentucky side of our heritage. A visit to the Cincinnati Museum Center needs a sister visit to the Behringer-Crawford Museum.

The Dry Dredgers were treated to a personal tour from two museum representatives. They were very informative and helpful. Thanks!

Here are some photos from our day.

Oh, yes. And a case of Northern Kentucky fossils was also interesting!

Now lets look at our first outdoor field trip of the year, to a favorite site in Southeast Indiana.
