East Fork Lake, Ohio

Our June picnic and field trip was held in conjunction with the Kentucky Paleontological Society from Lexington. It was our turn to host them and we selected the East Fork Lake spillway site. This is a Fairview Formation collecting site. The area consists of a large flat with some nominally graded hillside and is thus a good site for smaller children. This was all surface collecting so hammers, chisels and other tools were not needed. Just collecting bags and boxes.

We met at 11 AM, at the picnic area at the base of the dam. After enjoying a picnic lunch we all proceeded up the hill for what we hoped would be a profitable day of collecting for all.

Here are some pictures of the Kentucky Paleontological Society and the Dry Dredgers at the picnic site.

Here's the collecting site. We shared our spillway with amateur model plane builders who were flying that day. This first picture shows their runway.
